Award winning Art Themen has a quirky and very original style of playing. He is one of Britain’s leading tenor saxophonists, having been a legend on the British jazz scene for over 50 years, famously combining his role as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with saxophone duties in the bands of Alexis Korner and Stan Tracey among many others. A true ‘Dr Jazz’ Art has been described by the Observer as: “One of the tiny handful of undeniably perfect jazz musicians …”, as he remains as brilliant and inimitable as ever!
For this special December show Art will be with Grammy nominated pianist Graham Harvey, (George Benson, Stacey Kent, Madeleine Bell, The BBC Big Band) the noted bassist Tim Wells and the acclaimed drummer, Spike Wells.

A previous winner of the tenor saxophone category in the British Jazz Awards, this living legend of a tenor player is still regularly playing to packed crowds over at The Bull’s Head. “His ideas (are) eclectic in an unpredictable style that has outlasted the Coltrane clones of his generation ……” said Jack Massarick – London Evening Standard Jazz Critic. Completing the quartet are John Critchinson on piano, Tim Wells on double bass & Spike Wells on drums.
